How Hormones Impact your Mood, Energy, and Motivation
Jul 24, 2025
For every mum who’s ever thought, “Why do I feel so off lately?”.
It’s not just in your head. Your hormones play a big role in how you feel, move, and cope, especially during motherhood.
Oestrogen helps boost mood, memory, and motivation, but when levels drop (like before your period or post-baby), you might feel low, flat, or foggy.
Progesterone is calming and supports sleep. Low levels? You might feel anxious, restless, or wired-but-tired.
Testosterone supports confidence, drive, and strength. If it’s low, you may feel unmotivated or like their “get-up-and-go” has disappeared.
Cortisol is your stress hormone. If it’s low, you may feel unmotivated or like their “get-up-and-go” has disappeared.
Hormone levels change throughout your cycle, postpartum, and perimenopause. And that affects your energy, emotions, and focus daily. As a MumSafe trainer, I don’t just coach muscles, I support real women. Understanding hormones helps us lead with empathy, not pressure.
You’re not lazy, unmotivated, or broken. You might need rest, nourishment or support, not another push.
